James Conner Fights Back

James Conner is one of the country’s elite offensive players with a decorated and prolific sophomore season. I’m talking first team All-American by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA), Pittsburgh Panthers first running back to garner first-team All-America honors in 27 years, ACC Player of the Year and Offensive Player of the Year by the league’s media and coaches, rushed for 1,765 yards and 26 touchdowns on 298 carries (5.9 avg.), ranked third nationally in rushing touchdowns, fourth in scoring (12.0 ppg.), sixth in rushing yards per game (135.8 avg.) and seventh in total rushing yards, led the ACC in each of those four categories and set Pitt single-season records for rushing TDs, total TDs (26) and points (156). Lets go ahead and write down 3 points with this one, go ahead and press play.

Mentor/Mentee Notes:

  1. “We got a game September 3rd”
  2. “I would be good if you said 2 percent, I was go make it”
  3. “The goal is still the same its just a little postponed”

When I say James Conner some of you may not have known what you know now but understand James Conner was diagnosed with Lymphoma Cancer. Understand that James Conner took in the pain and didn’t give up. Understand that NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE. So what did James do? He found his motivation in Eric Berry and began to push through the pain with NO EXCUSES. Yes NO EXCUSES because  he still showed up to practice and still gave 110% of what he has with NO EXCUSES. Some of you give up on practice because you to tired and this guy is fighting cancer, doing chemotherapy and still getting it done.

He told the doctor “I would be good if you said 2 percent”. WOW do you understand what that means? That means that in his mind, no matter what the percentage was if there is any chance I will make it through I’m TAKING IT. Then if you paid attention you would’ve caught the part when he said, “we got a game September 3rd” haha YES I’m beating this cancer then come September 3rd its game time AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Then he said, “the goal is still the same its just a little postponed”. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH are you kidding me? The GOAL IS STILL THE SAME! James Conner was a giving a diagnosis that anybody could use and say hey I’m done without anybody challenging it. Coach was even probably like come on son go chill and we will revisit when its done with. James Conner will get through this and he will be in uniform September 3rd. Find your inner beast mode and TURN IT ON, there are NO EXCUSES so get out of your own way.
